Facebook is taking over the world

Rate this Entry
As you well know I have adamantly resisted against Facebook, being that I myself am not inclined to be a social person, I cannot say that Facebook holds any real appeal to me, plus I really don't feel the need to dictate every waking moment of my life to the Internet. Random people don't need to know what I have for lunch, or what I am watching on TV or every minute little thing I may say, think or do.

But it seems as if everyone I know, including those whom I never would have thought of as being inclined into such things have alas had their souls claimed by the Facebook!

Though I still adamantly keep up my resistance force against it I cannot help but to wonder at its strange powers of compulsion to make people join its ranks.

I used to have facebook. It wasn't so bad, the only people who ever updated their "status" were really, really boring people so I never read the main page. I really just used it as an interactive address book.

Juniper- That is a good way to describe it. I also chase my sister around on it. I know ahe is on it all the time, because up her updates. She can't ignore my calls when I tell her to call me under a rocker picture!

It is a social venue and no matter how much some like to be hermits, myself!, we are still social creatures.

Well I have to say there is nothing about Facebook that appeals to me, I have never felt even a bit currious to join. And there is a part of me that always feels just a tad bit of dissapointment when I do discover someone I know has joined Facebook.

D-M, we may be the only people left in the world that refuse to join Facebook. The thought doesn't appeal to me either. And i have the opposite personality from you.

I keep mine really for the sake of ONE person and no it's not the wife but a friend overseas who about every quarter sends me a note to let me know she's alive and well and I send her nonsense messages much in the spirit of writing a certain well thought of moderator. She seems amused and I am content.

I also used to have a facebook that I begrudgingly created because peer pressure wore my integrity short--not one of my finest moments, in my opinion. I have to say it wasn’t all that great. For me every poke I got was a poke, irritating and intended for the enjoyment of the poker. They were not done out of any type of consideration for you but out of emotional insecurity. It seems natural that the facebook drones do attempt to recruit, too; their end is narcissistic, and you are their potential commodity. I dont want to be an object.

I have friends spread out across the country from the colleges and former jobs that I've had in the past. . .and we all have pretty mundane, but complicated lives now:work, family, etc. . . and not much time or energy for keeping in tough. Facebook is good for just letting us know what's going on with each other. We (I) don't update all the time, but when I do or my friends do, it's nice just know just a little window on their lives.

I only have one because I was sleeping with someone who insisted I get one. It's embarrassing to have one and then not invite any friends. I debate with myself regularly if I should just delete it.

No, I don't go in for the Facebook thing either, no thanks.
