College II

Well, one thing I am getting very observant of is that you have a lot to do on the computer. I'm constantly having to get on my college's website and log in to something called Blackboard to check and make sure if there is anything due, and if there's class on certain days. It's very annoying. I'm used to only going home with what the teacher gives me in class, I'm not used to discussion board (for school). but It's kind of like Lit-Net, minus the forum games.

One thing I'm liking about it, is that I have control of my own agenda, one thing I really didn't have back in high school. I won't get scolded by being on the phone, don't have to ask to go to the restroom, and I can be on the computer and be on something irrelevant to whatever I'm learning in class(don't try this at home kids) but yeah...sometimes I miss out on what is being said....It's very easy because I already know most of what the teacher is saying...that comes from being in advanced program after advanced program for six years.

Besides that, I'm still getting used to paying for my own lunch. I'm used to getting nasty pre-made food for free ever since I can remember. Here, they have a kitchen where you can watch them make your delicious food. Downfall-you have to get there early, and it takes up to fifteen minuted to get your food made, so if you have fifteen minutes before your next class, it's a really bad idea to get your food made. Might as well buy one of the nutrition bars they have, or get some of the soup of the day.

Overall, college is going great...except those online assignments, which I'm mostly confused about all the time....

From what I have seen, colleges don't do a good job with online things. That is, there seems to be a mismatch between the nature of the subject and the nature of the online material: short answer quizzes for literature and such. There were a few who made it work, but they were the exceptions.

Yes, because I never know what exactly is needed to be done, and what is just practice...it gets kind of frustrating.

Don't be afraid to ask. One thing that nearly all college students don't believe, even though it is completely true, is that the professors are there to help you, and they love to help students (well most of them do). The problem that they have with helping is time, but ask and talk with them; that's what you are paying thousands of dollars for. Get your money's worth.

Ah. I guess that's why I'm not driven enough. I scored into the presidential's scholars program and didn't have to pay for my classes. But Yes, sound advice. I shall take heed.
