day in a life

all the small things

Rate this Entry
Looking at my four year old son I can't help but wonder, when do we loose this ability to find joy in insignificant things. A stick on the ground is a magical find and you can use it as a sword, a gun or a magic wand. A stone is the sweetest gift he can think of to give me and tells me it's a wishing stone. There are so many things like that that bring so much joy to his little heart. I sometimes feel like I am getting the best parts of my childhood back when we get overexcited about something like that. When it's raining we go outside and play 'till we get soaked and when it's sunny we just go out and run in the park and climb all over the sculptures you can find all over this park (it is allowed to play in them). this is what makes life fun! this is what made childhood fun so why do we loose it with age?

This is something I am aiming to find again and keep. there are so many things in this world that drag us down and we get annoyed over, we need more things to make us happy and what is better than all the small things?.

It's our children's gift to us, isn't it. . . .the wonder and play of small things?

I think this sort of thing. . .the giving of stones. . .is one of the best things of being a parent. And no matter how full my pockets are with gifted rocks from our gravel driveway, I always accept them with a big smile on my face and a genuine thank you to the giver.

Yes I think Comedian got it right, it's a gift for us to observe and appreciate. I may not have that sort of wonder any longer, but I still enjoy new things and experiences. So all hope is not lost.
