Breaking Open the Head: A Psychedelic Journey into the Heart of Modern Shamanism is an interesting read. Well, I enjoyed it anyway. The author visits Africa, Mexico and other places to participate in various rituals so that he can gain spiritual insight. It was interesting to me because the author is American and comes from the spiritual wasteland that Western Culture seems to be sometimes.

Awesome, thanks, Shalot. I just did a couple of searches here and there and it looks like there are hundreds of books about Peyote in spiritual cultures. Not that I was planning to read any of them but I'll read yours. Have you read Huxley's work?

I read Brave New World a long long time ago, but not The Doors of Perception. It's on my list of things I really need to read.

I've been working on reading the Doors of Perception. I haven't read Brave New World though, though it's on my list. One of the absolute best books I've read was by Alan Watts, the Joyous Cosmology, it was sort of a follow-up from The Doors of Perception, taking the experiences further. It's online too.
