the ocean always dreamed blue dreams

Caliban's Heart

Rate this Entry
This is for my friends, Prince and Andrea, and for someone else I love very much.

Caliban's Heart

On the day that you pushed me
into harm's way,
did you think that
love would save you then?

Watching your eyes,
so clear now
I can see forty feet straight down,
but then you come,
into our house,
into our home,
and the veil lowers,
like that of an animal dying;
Will my love help you now?

What if I gave you a coat
made from wishes I have for you,
conceived before you were born,
that I have taken from the lining of
God's pocket
and weave them into
something softer than silk
and warmer than fur;
Will that save you from
the cold fury of outer space?
the private loathing you express only in your dreams?
the fearful loneliness of Caliban's heart?

I'm waiting (still, always) for you
to cleave from yourself
the black felt that
entombs your soul

I wait
I wait
I wait

Wow, I don't know what to say... I really feel speechless!
The lines that struck me the most:

I'm waiting (still, always) for you
    to cleave from yourself
    the black felt that
    entombs your soul

Oh, Qim! I'd have been moved beyond saying even if you had not dedicated it to me and Andrea (to whom I've just forwarded it.) The last two lines of S2 were so very moving, as is the whole of this. And I endorse too the lines, "to cleave from yourself" and what follows it.

(Could you possibly change the background colour? As it is I can't make out the name of the previous poster.) Edit: with some difficulty I did make out the name of Maximillian

That would be me, at your service

I enjoyed your poem qimi-- and the phrase "God's pocket" was really fun. I read it a couple of times. Of course, you extend that metaphor with references to a variety of raiment in the subsequent stanzas.

You're one of LitNet's finest, qimissung.

Thank You, dear Max, and Prince and Comedian.

Of course with the "God's pocket" I was going for the warmest and most loving place in the universe!
