AFS (help!!)

Rate this Entry
Well, i just (finally! ) got accepted into AFS, a worldwide student exchange program!!!!!!!!

besides the bananay happiness , I'm going to be gone for a whole year. They are letting me choose the country i want to visit. But, i have no idea where i want to go! I definitely want to go somewhere with a new language and culture different from that of the US, but besides that i'm totally open.

So, since i know LitNet has people from all over the world - does anyone have suggestions for places to spend a great high school junior year??

Thanks, everybody! And i will not abandon LitNet while I'm gone, promise!

Congratulations!! You should post it in the Boast thread. Mir, pick Italy, it's absolutely beautiful, and so much variation. Just a suggestion.

wow, congrats mir! that's so cool! how does it work? will you be staying with a host family?
pick Germany It's almost as beautiful as Italy, has much more variation and it's right at the centre of Europe. well, Germans are dull and impolite but at the same time we somehow manage to be the most hospitable people in the world (except for the Mongols, maybe)
    some pics of Germany:
    Nuremberg castle

the lovely Isle of Ruegen in the Baltic Sea

a town in the Bavarian Forest
cute cows in the "Allgäu" region

    Lake Constance

    the Black Forest
    Lübeck on the Baltic Sea

Oh pooh to Sleepywitch. Italy has so much variation, from the beautiful mediterranian beaches to the alpine mountains to hilly towns. How can you get more varied than the ancient ruins of Rome, the medevil towns in northern Italy, and gorgeaous renaissance of Florence and Venice. Plus you can't beat Italian food and we have lots of sunshine. Here are some pictures:

bah, Virgil, we've got lots of sun, too! and besides, we've got loads of Italian restaurants up here we've got some Roman ruins, too, plus lots of medieval and renaissance stuff. in the regeion where i live there's a medieval castle/fortress/stronghold thingy on every other rock outcrop
besides, the region where my parents live looks almost like Tuscany in summer

apart from that, I agree with Uncle Pen: Japan should be interesting

Well, i can't go to Japan, because it's in the Southern hemisphere and their school year starts at the worng time. But that would be cool!

Yes, i will be staying with a host family, and no, I will not be leaving LitNet! I could never leave all you guys. I'll still try to find a computer wherever i am!

Wow, Germany does look pretty. O.O And so does Italy!

But, i think I've finally narrowed it down to a few choices. And if anybody know anything about these, please PM me, because i have no idea how to decide between them!!

    so -
    Costa Rica
    Germany
    Italy
    the Netherlands
    Portugal
    and Spain.

Why Costa Rica? I don't know too much about it, but I would not feel that comfortable if my daughter were going to be there for a year. Perhaps that is out of ignorance. Anyway it seems like the different one from your choices.

Well - it is decided! Thank you for all your comments - they really did help me make my decision; unfortunately, i could only choose a few to ask to be placed in . . .

So, first choice: Italy. Second choice: Portugal. Third: Costa Rica. (Virgil, i just thought Costa Rica looked like a nice place. It is very beautiful!)

Thank you all! I'll let you know when they tell me where i got put.
