day in a life

active reader

I have realized that I am not the active reader I used to be. I read a lot when I was pregnant. I was very sick so I spent about 6 months in bed or on the couch reading. when my son was born I just didn't have time and the little time I did have I spent studying and at night I was just so tired. I read more now, but books that used to take 2 or 3 days to read take me now 2 or 3 weeks, if I'm lucky. There was a time when I could have read about 10 a month now it's one and a half... this annoys me a bit cause again and again I choose to do something else. I need to get in that mindset again. but on the other hand I am on my summer holiday and my son is not in bed by 8 like when he has school so we are up late playing or doing something fun.

we sometimes camp in the living room, take all the cushions from the couch and make a bed, he also has a small tent just to play with and it is a lot of fun camping in the sun-room with a tent...

I am definitely not the active reader I used to be either. Life is just to complicated. I'm sure it is for you too.

About once a year, I go through this:

I think it is a consequence of having too much on one's plate as well as mental exhaustion (at the end of school year). I say do what you feel like doing and let your body and mind recover.

When you are ready, you will start craving for the books again

Living room camps and picnics are my favorites!

Those and caves created inside using blankets and sheets draped over furniture. Pop-up tents simply do not have the charm of a hand-made cave.

I think none of us can read as much after we take 'step 2' in our lives, and by that I mean - after the childhood is over!
What matters is that you are rolling, buying books, or lending them from the library, and reading them. When I was at college, since I had a full time job at the same time, I used to comfort myself that university literature is too something I am 'reading' (which was true, but at the time all I considered by reading were classics and fiction!). So don't be disappointed, enjoy time spent with your child - 'there's more to life than books you know (but not much more!' - I'm sorry, one of my favourite quotes by Morrissey )
