A Job

Rate this Entry
It seems I have a job. I’m pretty nervous about it. A temporary job at mu mums office came up and she asked the people in charge if I could get in on it. She got me to write and submit my CV. There’s a problem with that too. Graduation is later this month so I don’t actually have my degree yet so I can’t write that down the grade I get, I just put grade pending (what’s the point of going to uni if you can’t put it on a CV). The other problem with it is that I can’t remember what I got for my A levels and I don’t have the certificates for it, I never went to get them from school (to be fair I was busy with uni at the time and I didn’t want to set foot in that ****hole of a school again) so I had to guess. I was modest and put all C’s, seeing as I know I didn’t get an A in any of them and B is unlikely and C is perfectly acceptable. It’s going to be pretty boring she assures me. There’ll be 4 temps (including me) archiving a bunch of stuff on the computer. What doesn’t help is that it’s at 9am. I’m not even awake at 9am. I have to be up 6:30 at the latest she reckons. Well. Yesterday I got up at 9am instead of 8am. Today I got up at 8:30am instead of 7am (I’ve been working my way down to it over the weekend. Only trouble is I can’t bloody sleep. It’s too damned hot). This job is pretty vague. It should go on for two weeks at the least but at one point they were talking about it being 3 months. It seems the ones in charge of it don’t know how long it’ll take.
It’s not my first time doing office work, it’ll be my 3rd. I did work experience at school in my mum’s old office (she’d been moved to another branch by that time) it was a job agency would you believe, specialising in office jobs. Oh the irony . But You can’t really put work experience on a CV, certainly not at 22 years old. The other time I worked in an office was in mum’s current job for a…. It’s hard to say what they do. A maintenance firm might be best. They cover various areas, power services, water etc. but they’ve fallen out with Thames Water because Thames Water seem to be being *****es. I don’t entirely get it but it doesn’t really matter. It was 2006 and I was working on the floor or two below her (I can never remember) same company, different department. I worked there for 2 weeks over the Easter holiday. I’ve forgotten most of it (anything too strange or uncomfortable for me, anything out of my natural comfort zone I tend to forget pretty much as soon as it’s happened and this was way out of my comfort zone (just working you understand, they didn’t make me do anything weird, working is strange fro me )) Ironically that job was archiving stuff too but it was paper based and they ran out of work for me at the end so I got pretty bored. I was happy though because I was allowed to listen to my MP3. I love that old thing. I’ve had it a good few years now, it’s a constant companion which just predates the ipod (I say predates, I got it when the ipod was around but before it really took off) But mum assures me I can’t use it this time. Different department, not so relaxed. We’ve had to go out and get me a work wardrobe. I always hate the stuff mum gets me for these situations and besides, I’m old enough to do it myself, I have my own sense of style now so it’s easier to decide what I want but harder to get it because I’m so picky. What I’ve got so far looks pretty smart and is quite cool (save for a nice white one I’d like for graduation, not sure if I should call it a blouse or a shirt. What’s the difference anyway? Anyone know? I always thought it was shirts for boys and blouses for girls but there are shirts for women too so that doesn’t really work) I’ll call it the white thing for now until I find an answer. It greatly resembles my school blouses (I always associate them with V necks because those are the ones mum usually got me (until my school ditched shirts and went for yellow polo neck t-shirts. Bunch of idiots.)) It’s slightly thicker than the other two so it’ll be hotter. Like I said, I’d like to wear it for gradation, for a while I’ve fancied the idea of wearing a shirt and waistcoat to it (it’s a formal affair so everyone has to dress smartly) and I thought it’d look pretty smart (also since I like layers, I find they somehow fit my shape better, it’d work out). I now have the waistcoat and got the white thing yesterday (for work actually but maybe I’ll save it for graduation, maybe I’ll get another (otherwise it wont be so crisp and white if I use it for both occasions), we’ll see how we go) it looks great. It really does. I also had the idea of having a pocket watch with it (a Fullmetal Alchemist pocket watch (I saw a guy on the train with one once and thought it was cool )) but we’ll see about that, maybe not, it’d look damned striking though. Like I said, we’ll see. I’ve got the important bits, that’s all that matters at the moment.

Hoping it goes well for you. I'm awful ate getting up too unless I MUST be there as I pride myself on being on time for appointments and work. I think in almost 19 years at AAA I have maybe been late 3 times. Once I know was a traffic problem and the other I suspect I was lingering too long at the Bookery. Hang in there. Make Mom proud.

Ah, summer jobs! Two good things about them: you make some money and they are temporary.

Have fun; the real world still awaits (and you can write at night).
