I Don't Want To Be Friends

I am not the sort
that can remain as
just simply friends,
this is not on account
of any staying feelings
of bitterness, wasted anger,
or the fear of pain and lingering
desire.

But rather
I am one who likes the past
to be left well behind me,
I have no use for dwelling
upon the what once had been's
or what could be's.

I like to keep everything
within its proper place,
I sever ties with an absolute
finalality.

So when I say that I wish
you well into the next life
it is not with a sneer,
I harbor no long lasting ill will
whatever may once had been,
but you have no place in my
future, and I just as soon
erase the traces of you
as near as can be done.

Whoever you choose now
to take within your arms
I cannot be bothered with
feelings of jealousy,
we are no longer each others
concern,

but there is no need for
phone calls, e-mails,
sitting down together
for lunches, from this day
forth let us continue on
as simple strangers
without regrets.
