Halls of the Dark Muse

People can be amusing

I have blog that is dedicated primarily to my darker interests as it were in which I post articles about vampires, werewolves, historical witchcraft, and a variety of subjects relating to myth and lore, and both how they appear in folklore, history, and modern media sources and so forth and a while back I posted an article about Medieval torture devices that were used upon alleged witches and heretics. And someone posted a comment in which they mentioned warlocks. Which was basically the word used for male witches.

All of this was some time ago, but just today I had a comment from someone on that post rather adamantly insisting that the word was actually spelled "Worlock."

I was pretty much 98% certain that they were wrong, but before I call someone else out fore being wrong I like to make sure that I myself am right, and I figured I would give them the benefit of the doubt on the off chance that they knew something I didn't (I know that seems highly unlikely )

So I did a little research on the word, the simplest possible thing to do was to do spell check on the word, but in addition, I looked it up in the dictionary and even after the discovery that there is no such word as "worlock" even in the dictionary, I did some online research to come to the final conclusion that the word worlock simply does not exist anywhere, there are not even like "urban" or "alternative" meanings for the word.

There is no evidence that anyone anywhere uses worlock in place of warlock. In fact there is no evidence that anyone uses the word worlock for anything.

It does appear to the be the name of a band, and apparently the last name of some people, but beyond that I cam to the conclusion that there is no evidence whatsoever to support his claim upon the spelling of the word.

So I informed for the future that he may wish to consider consulting a dictionary before he attempts to correct someones spelling.

It is quite possible that it is an archaic term and through time was changed. Take for example the word bass used to be spelt barse, *** used to be spelt arse, but americans changed it. Have you checked the oxford english dictionary?

Yep, I couldn't find it either. It's warlock. Really it's probably that band's fault for leading people astray. Actually I didn't find the name of a band named worlock, but a single by a band named Skinny Puppy:

First thought I had was Morlock from The Time Machine--after that I just savored your blog title awhile wishing I could succeed just ONCE in making you smile. Then I would go back to daydreaming about a certain mod.
