Miscommunication

Rate this Entry
About a few days or so ago when I turned on the TV I noticed that one of the channels did not have any sound, and at first I thought I accidentally hit the mute button so I hit the mute button but there was still no sound and a little thing came up that said mute on the screen, so I turned the mute off, and still no sound. I tried turning up the volume but still nothing.

So then I changed the channel and there was sound on the next station and so I began to flip through and noticed that there were a few other channels that did not have sound as well. I tried turning the TV off and turning it back on, but that did not work, but I still did not think that much of it, because that is something that is known to happen on the cable boxes sometimes. The sound will temporarily just go off and then come back and since most the stations were working I didn't think there was anything wrong with the TV.

For the time I ignored it figuring it was just a glitch that would clear up on its own and luckily I did not want to watch any of the soundless channels at that moment.

Well the next day I turned on the TV and noticed there still was no sound on certain select channels, which made the probability it was just a temporary glitch less likely, but I thought it was also strange that it was always the same set of channels that were not working but I had no idea what could be causing it, and well at the time I did not feel like dealing with it, and was still going to hold onto hope that it would clear itself up.

Needless to say the problem persisted and it became more clear that it was not a problem that was going away and I began to think that something must be wrong with the box and something would have to be done about it.

Tonight I just happened to be flipping through the channeles and I happened upon an episode of NCSI and it was really strange because there was someone narrating the show and it sounded like while the show was on someone was reading off the script for the show, which I thought was odd and wondered if they were doing some special on the making of the show or something so I watched for a while curious to see just what was going on.

It was not much longer before the show cut to commerical and the narrator voice came on giving this little special though I could not catch everything he said because he was talking to fast, but from the gist of it, I figured out that apparently I had at some point accidentally changed the setting so that I was on some thing for like the hearing or visually impaired.

Luckily my remote is pretty basic and does not have a zillion different options on it and so the only button I didn't know what it was or use was one that said Lang, which I thought must be short for language, so I pushed that button and for a moment a little thing flashed on the TV that said ENG and after that I checked the channeles that did not have sound before and the sound was back again and everything was working the way it was suppose to be.

Amazing that the aid for the hearing impaired is absolute silence. I guess so everyone around the television is capable of sympathizing

Haha yes I know. I figured it must have been either becasue the shows were not filmed with "Closed Captions" or my TV which is an old TV does not have the capablilties for it.

You were very methodical in how you approached the problem.
My favorite line was this though:

"and was still going to hold onto hope that it would clear itself up."

    Boy does that sound familiar!

Yes, that is my favorite way of fixing things, waiting to see if they fix themselves.
