Expect the Unexpected

I always enjoy going to the reptile store to get mice for my snake because I love to walk around and see what other critters they have, and to moon over the ones I wish I could have, but can't since they get too big, and I don't have the space to keep them.

Recently they have acquired a couple of new and rather trippy amphibians in the salamander family. One is called a Lesser Siren, and they are these adorable little guys that look like small eels with two front legs, and the others I cannot begin to remember how to spell the name, look like a cross between a tadpole and a lizard.

Next to the tanks where they were there was a tank in which at first all you see are a bunch of adorable little baby turtles. But then as you are watching them swim around, at the bottom of the tank is a carcass of a pinky (in the reptile world, a pinky is the official name for infant baby mice, they are used typically to feed young snakes. I had to give pinky's to my snake when I first got her, because she was literally the size of a large earthworm. And they get their name because it is before they grow hair, so they are just these naked little pink bodies)

So all these darling cute little baby turtles are swarming around savagely ripping apart the corpse of this dead infant mouse. They looked like little piranhas.

The irony! Some animals must kill to live but luckily none live to kill (though I wonder about humans sometimes) ... hmm
