The INTERNET!....

prepare yourself I'm about to rant a bit (I should be studying so this won't be that long).

People keep talking about Facebook and myspace and twitter and sites like that and I even see this problem on some sites where I can't get to the information I am looking for because you need to be registered to facebook. here on the ice people were giving news about the death of someone before family had been contacted people were trying to get money from the insurance company but were discovered of fraud because of facebook homes are broken into cause people advertise on facebook that they are leaving town, people brake up with their boyfriends or girlfriends through this thing. A woman at work spends up to 10 hours a day on facebook. This isn't normal. I don't even know what twitter is but everybody is talking about it. men are trying to find young girls on these communication websites and I am just so naive that I don't understand how that is possible. my sister in law happens to have the same name as an icelandic girl who won some big beauty contest, miss world I think and she got a billion disgusting e-mails and invitations from people all over the world. what is the deal with this? what is wrong with people? and people get addicted to this (at least they say so) they ignore everyday things to hang out on facebook

I'm not a fan and I can count on one hand the websites I visit, lit-net, solitaire, my e-mail, IMDB and the news website I have as I open the internet.

there may be good things about these websites too but it just dosen't interest me. oh I do have msn but I only have three contacts, the tree I really want to chat with.

(this was written in annoyance and haste and I'm not sure I'm making sense the whole time but who cares this is just a blog on ht internet).

I refuse to join any of those websites: facebook, myspace, or twitter. All my family are on them, or at least Facebook and they keep sending me notices to join. We should consider ourselves rebels Helga.

I have just disabled my Facebook account, for the reasons you listed, and also because if somebody wants to talk to me, they can take the time to come and see me or call me! As for overseas friends, they can take the time to e-mail me. I think websites like this are promoting unhealthy social lives for many- teens/young adults are now measuring their social worth by how many messages/friends they have on these sites. And interacting with peers almost solely on the internet. Anyway! I completely agree with you!

I very much agree. For example, I know a 12 year old girl who is too young to be on facebook, spends most of her time on there, has all kinds of questionable contacts and says the most awful, vulgar things on there. (And I don't know that because I'm on facebook, since I certainly am not. It's because one of my friends showed another friend her profile.) There may be some use for such sites, but I have no intention of joining any time in the near future.
