I hate changing the clocks

Rate this Entry
For those that are not aware in select states within the U.S. (I do not how many or the others that do this) there is this thing known as daylight savings time which was first once upon a time ago implemented for practical reasons relating to agricultural.

Because obviously, in the winter it gets darker earlier, and in the summer stays lighter for a longer time, the time is changed in spring and fall to match the changes in the duration of day and night, to aid in farmers with the scheduling of when to plant their crops.

In the fall the clocks are set back and hour, and in the spring they are set forward and hour. So as of right now normally it would almost 7pm but because we had to change our clocks it now almost 8 instead.

But to say the least there is no reason in this day in age to continue on with the time change, it is an obsolete practice still carried out only out of habit, and changing for the spring is the most annoying.

I hate having everything start later than usual. It is always hard to adapt to at first, and well when I am use to waking up around 8 o clock now I wake up at 9 instead, which always annoys me.

It also messes up my schedule for win I feed the animals.

I wish they would just abolish it and stick to one time, preferably the fall time.

It's not at all practical for my agricultural purposes . I am probably in the minority of people who ARE getting up at 5-6 a.m to go to the farm, and now it's darker! All the farmers I know don't give a damn what the TIME is- they'll adjust their schedule instead of whining about having to get up at a certain time to catch the light, thus negating the need for this stupid change.

But that's backwards. Clocks are adjusted forwards in spring to allow more light at the end of the day, not at the start. So for those of us who work regular patterns it means that there's more of summer to enjoy in the afternoon/evening, rather than it all disappearing while we're still in bed asleep. And for those of us in UK it means we might actually see some sunshine in summer, and that's got to be a good thing, right?

Contrary to popular belief, the practice was not introduced for agriculture. In fact it is not particularly good for agriculture. You can read about it here: http://www.nmm.ac.uk/explore/astrono...sh-summer-time

I like it when it's actually summer. Here in the U.S. they passed a law about two years ago changing the time we start daylight savings time from sometime in April to this past weekend. Seems a bit much to me.

But we still change it back to "normal" time right before Halloween, when all the kiddies are out trick or treating! Go figure. And I know you don't like kids, Dark, but you do like Halloween, don't you? You wouldn't want your sister's children to be injured when they are out getting their yearly overdose of candy would you?

Interesting article, Fifth. For those interested in the origins of Daylight Savings Time, you can read more here:

We had a bit of a discussion going about this very topic a while back. It was early
in my LitNut days before I knew how get the right margins of the text right, so the
initial posting may be difficult to read. The short story itself is a "fantasy," though.

Ah, the power of government to twirl our little lives around. Amazing isn't it.
