Self-god

Rate this Entry
"There are many things that we would throw away if we were not afraid that others might pick them up." Oscar Wilde, The Picture of Dorian Gray. I simply do not want to be kept just because I could be picked up by someone else. With this piece of wisdom from one of my adored poets, I consider myself to have found a treasure--a treasure to rediscover my self-worth, redefine my existence and resuscitate the long forlorn feeling of self-love.

If there is a god,

it exists in me, nowhere else.

The best way to love myself

is by being the god in me.

I will act as my own god.

I can be omniscient to my own tiny spectacle.

I am well-versed in this secluded jungle.

I know every blind curve, every high cliff,

where I could fall in some nights when the moon is absent.

I can foresee, I can discern, I simply can tell.

Like a true god,

I will know those that will bring me harm

and that which will bring me good.

I just have to intently listen, to pay attention.

With this, I will never be lost.

Because I am my own god.

If I will be loved, I should be loved right.

Otherwise, I am not loved at all.

And that is fine.

I greatly enjoyed this poem and your prelude leading up to it -- the combination of both elements made for a compelling blog post.

Your poem is similar in style to Walt Whitman's work, and that is a good thing.

That is an inspiring blog. I would have rather you used a different word than jungle. Something more esoteric, meta physical and the line would have been powerfully ironic within this humanistic setting. I say this because you have never stated there isn't a God, only if ? I think if you re write this and think harder about what you want to say and change some of the words like jungle, they might better explain how you feel to us . It was however an inspiring read.

Did you write this poem? It's fantastic, as my good friend always says. I commend you on the topic and journey inward. My you find the treasure you seek.
