This story is an excellent example of Jules Verne's scientific knowledge. He makes the story seem quite realistic, and why can't it be? A group of men try to escape a Confederate contained area and happen to find a balloon to make an escape. When the settlers arrive on the island after being blown thousands of miles away by a storm, the have to reconstruct the civilization which they left behind. I really enjoyed this stoyr and how sensible and accurate it is. It also conveys a deep message that everything we have can be traced back to nature. Nature has been very generous to man, but it can also be very cruel, which the five castaways find out in their fight for survival on Lincoln Island; with absolutely nothing but an uncharted island's resources and their own courage, determination and resourcefulness. Jules Verne is the gretest science fiction author of all time and I think that all modern day science ficiton authors can learn from his incredible ability to predict the future.
