Athos was (and of course is) Monsieur le Comte de le Fère. I do not know was the other two's professions was, altough is seems Aramis studied to become a priest, and eventually did.

The answer to that question is that Aramis was a student for the cardinal, Porthos was a sea pirate, and Athos was a count. THe movie tells you if you would listen to it.

They were French nobles. They still are. Nobles don't do anything. They're at the top of society and they live off everyone else, including all those hardworking peasants who rose up during the French Revolution. You want to know why they rose up, because of the nobles. You want to find out about these nobles, read A TALE OF TWO CITIES by Charles Dickens.

Athos, (whose actual name was Armand de Sillegue d’Athos d’Autevielle) and Aramis (whose real name was Henri d’Aramitz). Athos joined the musketeers when he was only 25 and died in Paris a few years later. So since Athos Was young when he was a muskteer he probably didnt have much of a profession. If anything he my have been some kind of an apprentice. Athos is related to M. de Treville and Aramis. Treville's father had an older brother named Guilhem. Guilhem's daughter married Adrien de Sillègue, Seigneur d'Athos. Their younger son, Arnaud de Sillègue d'Athos was the Athos of the books. Athos would have also been in the Musketeers before D'Artagnan first arrived. Athos was most likely killed in a duel in Paris on December 21, 1643. Since Athos died before D'Artagnan joined the Musketeers... D'Artagnan most likely never met Athos

Aramis is related to M. de Treville, who is the captaine-lieutenant of the Musketeers. Treville's father, Jean du Preyer, was a wealthy merchant who acquired nobility through his wealth. In That time you can actully buy your way into nobility. Treville's second wife, Marie d'Aramitz, gave birth to Henri d'Aramitz, the Aramis we know. Aramis would have already been in the Musketeers by the time that D'Artagnan arrived to first meet Treville. Aramis was admitted to the musketeers in 1640, around the same time as his distant relative Athos. Aramis was never a General of the Order of Jesuits or the Bishop of Vannes, as you see in the movies or read in the book. He served 15 years in the King's armies and went on to an uneventful marriage and fatherhood. Not much is known what he did before that. Although with all the men they had to serve in the regular military for sevral years before they can join the Royal Order of The Musketeers.

Porthos Isaac de Portau is the real name of the character who became Porthos. At the time that D'Artagnan entered the service of the King's guard under M. de Essex, Porthos had been with the company for some time. Porthos received his mantle in 1643. It is probable that Porthos and D'Artagnan could have become friends. Porthos was Bernais and D'Artagnan was Gascon; therefore they shared a similar background and dialect. After Porthos received his entry to the Musketeers however, his records disappear.

some of my information was taken from unknown authers and online reserch.

Go, Francois! You know your stuff! I never knew Athos and Aramis were distant relatives. But all four of them are, of course, nobility. Their being related kind of makes their relationship even closer. Porthos and D'Artagnan might be distantly related, too, if they come from the same town.

I was wondering what the previous professions of Athos, Porthos and Aramis before they became Musketeers.
