Austen did not write for the sake of action. She wrote for the purpose of sharply honed social critique. Ordinary life lived by ordinary people is where true critique and a greater understanding of human nature occurs. Action/adventure novels, romances, fantasies--they all have their place, of course, and deservedly so, but with different purposes. If you want action, read Tolkien, Crichton, or early Clancy. Avoid gnashing your teeth at an author for not doing what he or she purposely set out to not do.
