Firstly Frankenstein is an exceptional work of literature and is clearly open to interpretation. Its morbid sombre atmosphere help give the novel its gothic feel and this lends well to our perception of it.When we read it we feel almost engulfed in the tragedy of Viktor, most notably his murdered wife and this is due to Mary's brilliance in evoking ood and atmosphere. She carefully chose her subtitle as 'the post modern Prometheus' on two accounts not to judge her character but to see what unfolds when you play God,Like Prometheus Viktor was contributing towards something in Viktor's case a breakthrough in Science and in his endeavour to create the 'monster' he also creates his own death bed.He and the monster are literally two sides of a coin as exemplified in the reflection scene in the novel, and while Viktor can be denounced for his wrongdoing so can the monster because like Jekyll and Mr Hyde they are figuratively one entity.
