This is probably the most sane and accurate comment I have read today.

The point of this book is not a prophecy or a commentary on those political powers which we have already seen, Orwell makes that clear in the selections of Goldstein's book in which he points out the various failures of those systems. Rather, it is a call for humans to take a look at the condition of human kind and be careful to preserve our history intact, with all its follies and failures. We live in the age of Big Brother, we have always lived in the age of Big Brother. The lack of telescreens and thought police are merely spurious dribble when we realize that humans, as a whole accept society. We are drones that happily receive what our authoritarians offer us. Ask any patriot. <br> I think this book should be read by anybody who wants to write and influence people.
