Everyone focuses on "Big Brother" but the idea of humankind existing in three social strata in an ongoing struggle, with a perpetual upper class dominating, is the most realavant insight in this novel. In the narratrive, Winston's life was enriched by the joy he felt as well as by the pain he endured. I think he made the right choice to live life as he did, rather than passively going with the flow of life as it was set out by the Party.
