Here is the odd, random viewpoint of the high school student who read 1984 for school. It was a brilliant book, entirely worth my time, but this year has become dull in that every book has an unhappy ending. If only Winston and Julia had succeeded...I hated Winston's cycle from dull, bored man to lively guy and back down again. I wished that he could have stayed up, that Julia could have stayed beautiful. This book toyed with my emotions to the max. I wished that O'Brian had really been on their side. He was the sort of enigmatic one that I wanted to be on MY side of things. But alas, it was not to be- Master Orwell just HAD to ruin it for me. The book was amazing, and its moral points cannot be ignored, but overall it saddened me, because the protagonist did not succeed. I really must start reading books with happy endings again.

~KyndredKaty
