Though the fundamental ideas are certainly perceived to have happened, or to still be happening, this is essentially a political novel with much greater focus on the expression of Orwell's political views than a desire to assert its' literary value. I have problems with the omniscient narrative, and the situation in Chapter 18, when 2 or 3 people who Winston knows suddenly show up in the same predicament, comes off as almost comical. Nevertheless, very disturbing.
