Yes 1984 is a warning to the future generations, but at the same time, as we become more materialistic and imersed in capitalist ideology, we move further away from this dystopian vision. As for my parents generation the twin-spectres of communism and nuclear war were an at times an inevitable reality, for my childrens generation, 1984 will seem as just aas just a literary piece. We should hope that see 1984 as not a novel about totalitarianism but, as a warning not to give up civil and privacy rights under some future false guise -like the for the detention of terrorist or indeed the war on terrorism itself
