I am reading this book in Grade 9.<br>Surprisingly, I found out this book is similar to Chinese, Russian communism. <br>With my chinese background, I somewhat understand the whole thing.<br>Orwell is an world journalist, and he travelled to many places.<br>Interesting enough, the revolution is this book happened to be the exact time of Chinese's revolution. The newspeak mentioned in 1984 was a different language system (I believe India). I agree that communism is different from Bigbrother-ism. The intentions of the revolution was good, however development was vile. The sordid government didn't care about money but power. Bigbrother is like Chairman Mao, much of the practice being described in the book is like Chinese Culture Revolution. People have to make up stuff to confess and party members were demolished left with one person in total control. There's no real definition of a dark or light society. This book greatly illustrated that Orwell is against communism. Chairman Mao learned how control people by understanding Chinese people's thinking patterns. I still have no real comprehension of how the government are able to completely brainwash the civilians. But the question stated here Is capitalism really the final stage of human society? Hope we all can appreciate our freedom. A country can only prosper if there's competition, and the only society that have competition is a Capitalism society.
