I remember finding "1984" in my high-school's library a few years back and reading it out of boredom and curiosity. I reckon I didn't sleep until I finished it reading, a couple of days later. I, as imagine every other reader, emerged from this book a very spooked kid.<br>Never before or since has someone painted a more terrifying picture of government control and to the lengths people will go to to conform to the System. Not to mention Big Brother's endless "protection" of everyone. 24 days a week, 365 days a year.<br>Considering the way our government is reacting to 9/11 and other events, it bears noting that though the American people will never settle for a system like this, beauties like closed circuit cameras everywhere, government scrutiny of private e-mail and body searches in airports ring eerely like something Big Brother would like. <br>Perhaps the scariest similarity between the book and real life is that it's the people that are demanding these changes. It seems the world is collectively yelling that:<br>"I LOVE BIG BROTHER"
