I read 1984 in about 1973.....just 'cause it was in the school library

I think that we will live in a society closely resembling Orwell's in 2004, pity he was 20 years late with the date, there are things that may be different from his novel... no burning of books etc... because no facism... also no communism as the ussr no longer exists,

so therefore communism as was Orwell's fear is not the big brother, Orwell's society will be enforced on all of us by the need for security by the world powers, if the leader of the world powers does on the world what Orwell attempted to predict, then I pose a question why did they spend so much time, money and resources fighting communism. The big danger for the free world in the 50's, 60's and 70's = the soviet bloc. Now that it's gone I would like to ask the free world who is the enemy and why the need to subjugate all citizens with big brother restrictions, if the free world was able to hold not only the ussr but also china and other perceived threats at bay and in fear.

Circumstances that have occurred in the last year or so have been barbaric and they have happened in the usa, russia and elsewhere: but the current attempts by the "free world" powers will place is all in an Orwellian sociaty very soon.
