First of all, Orwell was only off by 20 years. Secondly, the parallels between this story and the Spanish Inquisition are striking. I must also push people in the Direction of Ayn Rand's "Atlas Shrugged" for a more in-depth review of the philosophies that are struggling against each other here. In the case of 1984, there is a blend of religious, "witch-doctor", love thy brother forces and the Atilla forces.
