Well, of course there is a difference in taste among any group of people, but personally I found this book very hard to put down. I believe the first time I read it I did so in two days, and the second time in three. Although you might not have enjoyed this great work of literature, I doubt that this would be the most popular title for the worst book someone has ever read.

Not sure if "emma" was being serious or just trolling. If the former, I suggest she try reading the book again after she matures a bit. It may not be the easiest read, but she might find it more interesting once she can grasp the nuances of the material.

As a sophomore in high school (and NOT an exceptionally "holier-than-thou" sophomore) i find it hard to believe that students reading this in senior english would be so unable to understand, well, ANYTHING about the book. Sorry, emma, but doesn't the present state of the world - and the US in particular - bother you at all? Don't you ever worry about our society becoming like that of oceania? The real truth (and therefore interest) in the book lies in the parallels to our lives and the idea that without the opinions and actions and input of the people, our world could very easily turn in to a totalitarianistic cesspit. This book is VERY relevant, I think. It is intended to be a wake-up call to the masses, but it is obviously somewhat ineffective if it can't even reach the highly impressionable youth of the world. And since you had to read it anyway, I don't really understand why you didn't TRY and at least understand it for you own personal boredom's sake and instead are whining that it didn't have pretty pictures.

I was forced to study this book as part of my final year of high school and found it incredibly boring. True, Orwell may have written a thoughtful and highly unusual novel here but that doesn't make it any easier to read. I would be surprised if anyone could read this novel without falling asleep at least once. I, myself read only 76 pages and have thankfully been able to bulls#@t my way to high essay marks with comments such as "good understanding of the text". I must laugh at the stupidity of some teachers.<br>I would reccommend this novel to everyone because everyone has to have a "worst book they've ever read" and I'd safely bet this would be the most popular novel for that title.
