I think the reason Winston hates Big Brother so much is because he doesn't realize how safe his society actually is. The only crime he talks of is thoughtcrime, which he himself is guilty of, and the actions taken by the Party to change Winston's views help the society. What I would like to know is what happened to Winston's mother and sister. Other than that, the book is wonderful.
