The essence of this novel demonstrates how futile and relentless it is to resist the
clutches of those who gain ultimate power once the hooks are implanted in every aspect of
mankind - via the perversion of technology. The novel depicts a man who learns the
difference between ultimate control and the importance of basic freedoms. The point of the
novel, however, speaks to human conscience - to those of us who truly value our existence.
It warns us, ominously, that once all aspects of freedoms have been sacrificed, either
directly or indirectly, i.e, freedom of speech, right to privacy, right to property, etc.,
the fight to regain such concepts and to realistically maintain them is futile. The essence of this futility, is that there could be no victory after the fact.
