When Orwell wrote AF, Stalin had not yet died. Orwell was faced with the grim possibility that the status quo of that despot's regime would continue. The film, Animal Farm, was produced after Stalin's death and the "Wall" had come down. The producer who had lived in Stalinist Hungary had to feel some elation that perhaps that tyranny had given way to hope.
