Prologue

The temple of darkness was rocked by another round of catapult fire. Maroch stood at the massive doors to the temple staring down an army of 20,000 soldiers his eyes ablaze crimson red full of power, anger and hatred. You foolish mortals, He shouted, You can’t defeat me I am death itself I am the end of the world! Fear crackled from man to man staring upon such a powerful adversary how could they possibly win against such odds.
Maroch hands were ablaze ready at any moment to strike, he had been given these powers by making a pact with a ancient deity. It was an inconvenience at best to be cornered by these mere mortals Maroch thought to himself. At the front of the massive army the General leading the attack was named Kagin. He donned an elaborate set of armor gold and bronze with a fearsome dragon on the breastplate and a matching serpent on his shield he carried on his back. He normally carried a large sword meant for one hand or two handed combat. It was long with a dragon wrapped around the hilt.
But it would not be his ally today for he carried a different weapon given to him by the powerful priest order that had joined in on the fight to save humanity. General Kagin was flanked by his lower commanders and his lieutenants and of course the powerful priest hood order. All with one goal to drive this ancient evil enemy back from which it came. General Kagin shouted to his men, stand your ground men! We have him cornered, the catapults fire continued to rock the temple. Maroch dodging the mortar fire easily, growing angrier and more powerful by the second.
His entire being was now engulfed in the same crimson fire that flowed from his eyes. It was apparent to everyone present he was reaching a critical mass if something wasn’t done he could destroy the entire world in a single blow. A green cloud suddenly burst forth of sickening color and pure evil and malevolence from the temple itself. The earth shook with a powerful force beneath the armies feet the explosion was so powerful everyone including General Kagin himself struggled to stay on his feet. Trees swayed back and forth violently stones fell from atop the temple.
The cloud birthed a number of other worldly creatures, Maroch laughed maniacally kill them all my minions he shouted, raising his arms pointing at his enemies. General Kagin responded to the threat with years of loyal service to throne under his belt. Kagin, shouted attack men leave none alive! The battle ensued the sounds of war could be heard for miles swords and shields splintering crushing of bones and other worldly creatures dying and men alike filled the air.
The nearby village of Trobare was preemptively evacuated days before the attack began to minimize the local civilian casualties incase the attack failed the first village to fall would be Trobare. The battle raged on it was apparent the fight wasn’t going very well the creatures power and minions was far to much for them to handle. The army that faced these monstrosities were all decade veterans battle hardened but they were clearly no match for this powerful adversary.
They were clearly losing this fight the fate of humanity was hanging in the balance. The highest ranking of the priest hood order shouted to General Kagin, his name was Nadal, we have to drive that foul demon back to his lair now! The number of creatures began to outnumber the soldiers who would bravely fight to the last man if they had to if it meant the evil would ultimately be driven away.
General Kagin drew the blessed sword given to him by the priesthood they knew it could insure victory in this fight. The sword was an ancient weapon closely guarded by the order it would normally be locked away but today it was a powerful ally. It could only be wielded by someone of pure of heart and a member of the Traverston bloodline. It had be a family secret for generations. The weapon was long and beautiful the blade itself could outshine the sun. One could almost see the heavens in the blade. Handle made of the purest gold and precious gems.
Nadal shouted to General Kagin, Sir you have to fight Maroch now if this battle is to be won. Kagin knew he had to face their powerful foe alone no one else could. Knowing what had to be done racing through his brave soldiers staring face to face with this powerful being. Maroch hissed, you are brave General Kagin you foolish mortal he sneered. Standing his ground his blessed sword drawn some how Maroch seemed even more powerful up close than when they were yards apart Kagin could feel the evil and malevolence flowing from every fiber of the creatures existence.
You’re reign of terror ends here monster! Kagin shouted, Maroch began to laugh an evil maniacal laugh that pierced Kagin to his very soul it was almost too much for a mere mortal like the General to bear. Maroch’s eyes glowing a bright crimson red flowing of pure power almost engulfed in the sinister glow surrounding his very presence. He drew his dark weapon of pure evil the bowels of hell itself could be seen in the blade. An almost unbearable fear washed over Kagin something that doesn’t come easily with years of military experience over a lifetime cured him of such fear.
But staring at the dark blade his adversary drew he suddenly knew what he was facing he was fighting death itself in a struggle for dominance and the right for mortal man to live. Shaking him from his thoughts, Maroch sneered what’s wrong General Kagin? Suddenly lose you’re nerve? You are a pathetic fool, Maroch mocked Kagin trying to provoke him to attack. General Kagin had enough of this evil, looking over the chaos of the battle field brave men were dying catapult fire continued to rage he knew it was now or never.
Kagin let out a soul raising shout that inspired the rest of the men to fight harder ah, die you evil bastard! And go back to hell where you came from he bellowed. Kagin swung his mighty sword it sang with a beautiful harmony of a powerful weapon bring it down towards the creature he could feel the blessing of the sword taking hold he could feel the power flowing from the blade almost as if he could reach out and touch it as if it were tangible.
Nadal watched helplessly as the battle for the survival of humanity for it had truly begun. Maroch easily blocked Kagin’s blow, both started exchanging a series of furious blows that only the priest that were present we’re privileged to witness. Both Kagin and Maroch we’re moving faster than any normal man could follow blow after blow parry after parry the fight raged on against Maroch and his minions. While bringing around his might sword for another swing General Kagin found his opening. He swung around ran the length of the holy sword through his heart right to the hilt. Maroch let out a soul piercing scream.

Nadal and every man present watched as the creature fell to his knees. Kagin held the blade waiting for the creature to die all the remaining creatures turned back to the green cloud from which they came. Maroch hissed in pure hatred and rage had being defeated by a mere mortal. He could feel his existence slipping away. He decided at that moment he would exact his revenge on Kagin’s family by cursing his blood line. Drawing a jeweled dagger with a free hand his essence quickly slipping away he had to hurry if he was to preserve himself and return one day to finish what he started.
Unnoticed by Kagin Maroch had drawn a hidden weapon until the dagger started glowing white hot drew his attention. What the hell are you doing? Kagin demanded, the creature used every last ounce of strength his essence continued to flow into the dagger he plunged it into Kagin striking him in his upper chest near his shoulder blade. Feeling a sense of victory Maroch watched, and in horror his troops watch Kagin fall to his knees meeting Maroch eye to eye. His blood began to boil what was happening he thought to himself, as his troop watched in horror had their General been defeated?
Kagin grabbed the dagger by the hilt yanking it out of his chest he screamed in agony and rage what did you do to me you monster? Answer me Kagin demanded, coughing now Maroch hissed with amusement in his adversary’s pain and agony he caused. You’re bloodline will suffer my vengeance Maroch’s eyes growing darker by the minute. In three generations you’re descendant shall be my vessel to return and I will destroy this world through him. What non sense are you talking demon I can’t have children I will have no descendants. Laughing maniacally Maroch slowly faded out of existence the doors to the temple slammed shut with a thunderous roar.
Kagin shouted, quick Nadal put a seal on that door so no man can enter after a few minutes a powerful seal crest appeared on the door. With the seal in place the evil with the temple of darkness could never be released again. General Kagin stared at the bloodied dagger tip he had pulled out of his chest going over in his mind what Maroch had prophesied. Blood continued to trickle down the front of his chest from the hole made by the blade. Something strange occurred the would healed it self. Noticing the blood of the armor from the hole it was coming from Nadal spoke with concern you’re bleeding.
With the dagger still in hand Kagin spoke, it’s nothing Nadal it only a flesh wound it seemed to have healed it self odd. Nadal looked at the dagger he could sense a trace of evil coming from it. Looking down at the dagger in the Generals hand oh my God you are far from alright give me that please Nadal spoke with a odd urgency and persistence. Nadal pleaded again please give it to me now! Kagin reluctantly handed the dagger over. Kagin spoke with a soft note of concern of his own what’s wrong Nadal you look like you’ve seen a ghost. You’re not far off General, Nadal mumbled.
Nadal voice heavy with fear what did he say to you when he stabbed you with this? Kagin’s voice heavy with dismissing anything that monster had to say. Oh some nonsense about my blood line being cursed and in three generations my descendant being his vessel for return. Nadal’s face went blank turning whiter than the holy sword Kagin carried. Nadal continued, it’s just as I feared this contained a piece of his soul a filadactory. Kagin laughed at the foolishness of Nadal such paranoia for a priest he thought. Kagin clapped Nadal on the shoulder look you have nothing to worry about me and my wife cant have kids we’ve tried for years I will have no descendant’s.
A look of reluctant worry came across Nadal’s face he mumbled, don’t count on it. Kagin spoke, come along Nadal lets get Trobare’s citizen’s back where they belong. As the troops gathered the dead and they prepared to make back for the village some how Kagin knew something wasn’t right. His blood still felt hot from being stabbed with an apparent cursed blade being plunged into his chest creating a wound now healed but some how maybe Nadal was right deep down in his soul the wound went much deeper.
A year passed and true to what Nadal had said Kagin’s wife had a son. It was something of a miracle the living relative’s we’re over joyed. Kagin knew deep down what had to be done for safety’s sake the priest hood was informed and was to keep watch on the Traverston family and try to insure no one from that family goes any where near the dark temple. And so the priest hood was charged to keep the unthinkable from happening and keep Maroch from one day rising again and carrying out his threats. Kagin passed away years later and so did the rest of the family but his son would go on to have a son and his after that would have a son his wife gave birth to a boy they named him – Lexionius
