I heard this too. It is fascinating. The rumours have been around for a long time that he was writing away in private.

He sure was. i have suspicions (I hope they are wrong) that his work got more introspective and digressive as he was steering towards this in last published work Hapworth 16, 1924. I may be wrong, and likely I am.

I am a Salinger fanatic when it comes to 'catcher' and 'nine stories' and 'franny and zooey' his short story, 'for esme with love and squalor' is art
