Brando was the classic sweaty beast (Lynx is for poofs approach) But Baldwin was good in the film role too.

The text does reward me a lot. It’s so fascinating to think of Stanley Kowalski as this larger than life man. He’s a monster in many ways, yet there’s a lot of power and aura to him. And Blanche DuBois, Stella Kowalski, Mitch, Eunice, the Young Man — extremely well-drawn characters.

It was one of the most captivating piece of drama. The Penguin edition I had, had an interview with Williams as well in the appendix of the book. You can sense his satisfaction and achievement with the responses he gave to the interviewer. I wonder what kind of life experiences get one to write such works. Or if life experience is necessary at all to write such penetrating pieces. I want to read the play again but it's kind of scary to go back to A Streetcar Named Desire.
