Animal Farm is a satire about The Russian Revolution, particularly directed against Stalin's Russia. It symbolises a time of darkness in Russia. The characters represent political figures, for example, Old Major represents Lenin, Napoleon represents Joseph Stalin, Snowball is Leon Trotsky, and so on. The resignation of Nicholas the third is the start of Stalin’s Russia. After chasing away Mr. Jones, the animals in Animal Farm needed a leader to be in charge of Animal Farm, where they were all free and equal. Out of all the animals Snowball and Napoleon were the most educated and renowned animals on the farm. Stalin and Trotsky struggled for power, but Stalin skilfully out-manoeuvred Leon Trotsky, and expelled Trotsky. In the same manner, Napoleon chases Snowball away from Animal Farm, and becomes the leader of Animal Farm. After chasing away Snowball, Napoleon decides to build a windmill. After Trotsky’s expulsion, Stalin announced the first Five Year Plan, an ambitious attempt to make Russia a modern industrial state. People suspected of opposing Stalin were executed, imprisoned, or sentenced to years of hard labour in cruel Soviet labour camps. The same thing happened in Animal Farm. When the animals had finished confessing their crimes, Napoleon ordered the dogs to murder the accused animals. The accused citizens were innocent and Stalin did not have any evidence. It was the same situation in Animal Farm. Napoleon did not have any proof. At the end of the story, the pigs desert the idea of Animalism and called Animal Farm by its original name, Manor Farm. The Soviet Union collapsed and communism ended in Russia.
