We standing together
The lake’s crystal clear waters trap the infinite sky,
A pool of clarity.
Transparent
Birds sing to the dawn, flowers bloom, sunlight dances.
One jumps in
The water turns murky and swamped,
A bog of ambiguity.
Obscured
The sky darkens
The land seeps
The water thickens
The boundaries between all blur.
The birds become silent, flowers wilt, the sun sets hiding.
A snake writhes upon itself and becomes knotted
Choking it’s own breath from its lungs.
Alligators patrol the surface
Circling upon the skin of the water
Trapping the body below.
He yells for his other
“Come back”
Fear stricken, frozen,
His breathe descends to the deep.
She yells to her other
“How can I?”
Fear stricken, frozen,
Her last breath ascends to the surface.
