Not as long as the whole string.

Start with 2 x B / w metres, if B is the breaking strain of the string and w is the weight per metre. That's just a first thought, but I've no doubt that some Newton will give a much better answer.

ok lets start from the beginning.
if you were to hold a piece of string what would be the purpose for it?

what is a whole string?

what is a whole string?
The sum of its pieces. Sum pieces being better than nun (to get theological about it).

To whirl it. But only in principle. Whirled piece is a notoriously unobtainable goal. After you have whirled it, you can use it to lower yourself into a whole (see above: what is a whole string?).

theological?
what does that mean?

I hope so too.
I have my own idea but not sure yet..;)

The string whole, ou bien the whole string. You see? Each piece is less than the whole. Tie them together or you'll never get out.

LOL fair enough but if they are tied to untie them is the only option non? :D

If you must untie them, then roll them into a ball. It would still be a whole, but at least you'd be out of it.

After the ball, Ms. Cacian gets to put on the glass schlepper. In fact, just calling him a schlepper would probably be putting him on enough. He's got a good sense of humor, but we don't want to hurt feelings.

string is what keeps a kite flyer grounded;
it must be as long as one's imagination

Pompey what is a glass schlepper? had to look up shlepper. It must german/austrian derivative??
anyway I figured a piece of string is long is an approximation but there is so much a string can stretch depending on the usage
right?
what could one of the answers is perhaps to apply to rule of usage and list all the components of how a string is used. I mean how long have we got? :svengo:

It's Yiddish. A glass schlepper is a guy who schleps glasses. Cinderella was fond of hers, but used to put him on mercilessly.

Yes, that was after the ball. Everything turned to rags at midnight except the glass schlepper. Poor Cinderella, she didn't have a digital camera, you know. She had to send negatives away to be developed, which of course took forever. I can still hear the poor girl singing: Someday my prints will come!

Oh yes, she played the violin. She met her bow at the ball but they didn't pluck around until after marriage. Putting on the glass schlepper was only a cymbal.

Mais oui, c'est normale. In fact, I heard she loved to put on her glass schlepper. She'd wait until he was schlepping a big load of glasses, then she'd say something like, "Hey, your barn door is open." He'd just laugh. He knew she was only putting him on.

Well, I heard he was a bit of a challenge. Left his Prince all over the glass schlepper if you know what I mean. Let's just say the tales are Grimm.
