I was driving when I died
I heard the fireman say
I hadn’t survived
I can see the fir tree
Air freshener
And the blood on the screen
And the bad moon
But I hear the fireman say
I hadn’t survived
A snickers wrapper in the footwell
And you havent survived
Beside me
Solitary magpie
In the cherry tree
Crumpled Lager can
Broken glass
Dj on the radio
Giving a shout out to
Disco Dan
I need some sunshine or a cup of tea
I’m bleeding
From my ears
Nobody here is older than me
I have years
Under my seat belt
And black suede shoes
I think a long time ago
I cried
Like a little boy scared of thunder
I cried
In fleshy mess
And bloody glass
I held your hand
When the fireman said
We hadn’t survived.

This is an interesting point. We can perhaps be in the transition from life to death, which this poem expresses admirably.

I love the emotions your poems evoke through pictures of points in time.
