Finally I cook the perfect toast
It springs into the air
As Bill Withers sings Lovely Day
In digital radio perfection
I open a jar of marmalade
It looks amazing
Orange rind in golden jelly
Smells amazing
I don’t like it
I spread it on my perfect toast
And show it the bin
I could text somebody
Beginning with...
B
It brings up Brian
He’s a knob
I text Brian you are a knob
And I know he will think I’m joking
As he’s a knob
I need snap crackle and pop
I pour on milk and listen
Who’s to say which is which?
I need to open curtains
Opening curtains is the way to start the day
A dramatic swoosh
To welcome in the grey
I could turn the fridge upside down
So the freezer’s on the top
I could go back to bed
And bring all this
To a stop
I could have peanut butter
Wear stilettos
Start a fight
Or watch morning tv
I’m on trip advisor
Looking at the best hotels to stay
At places I don’t want to be
Im misremembering
Childhood holidays
Repainting them
In a golden sandy hue
Walking up the stairs
Arms out stretched
Taking off
I’m running a bath and creating bubbles
Every last bubble owes me
I’m glad to be alive
With bed sheet wings
And the window open wide.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marmalade_(band)

"The Marmalade is a Scottish pop rock band from the east end of Glasgow, originally formed in 1961 as The Gaylords, and then later billed as Dean Ford and the Gaylords. In 1966 they changed the band name to The Marmalade. The most successful period for the band, in terms of UK chart success, was between 1968 and 1972. From the early 1970s, after the original players began to drift away, the band evolved with many further changes and still exists to this day touring the nostalgia circuit. With the departure of Graham Knight in September 2010, there are now no original Marmalade members remaining in the band."

One of the successful British Intervention bands of the 1960s Following the Beatles and Rolling Stones.

Good one, JB. I'm fairly certain there was a literary cat called marmalade as well. But don't let me muddy your waters :D

I am in the process of learning all about the "British Intervention" in pop music. But I am posting about it in a number of different topics. So why is this thread called "Marmalade"?

It´s the name of Jerrybaldy´s poem, that opens the tread. You were probably diverted by the songs that were posted afterwards.

Yes, I realise that. I chose The Marmalade as the one to write about. I wasn't diverted, but the rest of the items followed up with their own versions. My question remained unanswered. It is an interesting topic, and Jerrybaldy's poem does it well. Here especially:

Im misremembering
Childhood holidays
Repainting them
In a golden sandy hue
Walking up the stairs
Arms out stretched
Taking off
I’m running a bath and creating bubbles
Every last bubble owes me
I’m glad to be alive
With bed sheet wings
And the window wide.

Hi Dreamwoven.
I could say that I titled it Marmalade as I go on to say that it’s amazing, but then throw it away, symbolic of how we treat the people we love, but to be honest I just plucked it from the verse as a good word for the title.
Thanks to you and everybody who read and commented.

I really like this, the details bring your morning scene to life

Thanks motherofpearl. Few people comment on anything buried as many pages down as this must have been.

Like it. I have recently just found a love for marmalade.

Very weird poem.
