So Jesus came to the house warming
He made no fuss
Left his wooden cross in the hallway
With the wet coats.
When the nibbles were passed
I noted he never
Double dipped.
He liked the red wine
A lot
Served to him by Vera
Widowed last week
But she bore no grudge
Good old Vera
She only had eyes for Dave
Who loved Olives
And sucked on them seductively
Unoticed by jesus
Who was dancing to ABBA
And had switched to Sauvignon
Whilst he bled over the carpet
Steadily dripping
And he was right there
When the garlic bread was gone
He blessed the house
In the name of his father
And we cheered
And he dripped
And Vera took Dave to the bathroom
And Frank started singing ‘New York’
‘Where the f uck is that’? asked J
‘It’s new’ we said and hokey cokeyed.
Nobody noticed him leave
It’s like he was never there
But we awoke on the sofa
With virgins, unicorns, fish, bread and wine
Chapters of verse
And empty cans of San Miguel
Scattered everywhere.
