You steer clear of the iterations,
Fiercely regulating the subjects your pen explores.
You're certain that you've always striven for breadth over depth
So you could bask in the glow of the facets you'd created.

Then that reasoning begins to crumble,
Revealing itself as something you'd fabricated for your own protection.
It's not a desire for an eclectic collection,
It's a fear of what focus might uncover.

You'll dig countless holes in the history of your life,
But you'll hesitate to dig deeply.
The world down there would be dark and cold and silent,
Sharpen your senses into a deadly point.

You'd enter the truth as the truth entered you
Until you couldn't tell what from who.
All hope of return would flicker out,
For once found you'd be lost beyond a doubt.

This poem speaks volumes. Well said.

After the power of your words, so eloquently put, I did find, however, that the last line didn't really sum it all up... Sorry to be "Mrs.Editor" and all -- but there is just something about that last line.

Always enjoy reading your work, Toffee, and look forward to more. :)

Don't be sorry, I don't have a literary background so constructive criticism is always welcome. I do agree with you. I edited the ending, but I'm not sure if it's better or worse than before.

Well done, Toffee!
