My question is if Room 101 is the worst stage in the stages of torture? Also, is Room 101 really as bad as it’s said to be? Why is it called Room 101? Is there another room that’s worse and is called Room 201 or something? If Room 101 is really that bad then why didn’t Orwell choose to use a more intimidating name that would put fear into you? You would think a more intimidating name would help present how awful Room 101 is.

Room 101 is the worst form of punishment one can recieve in the Ministry of Love. In Winston's case it is rats. Like O'Brien tells Winston it varies for each person. For some it may be a buriel while still alive or a death by fire.

What would the more intimidating name be? Room 101 has the benefit (in terms of being intimidating) of having a number instead of a name, so you don't know anything about it, and it's a really innocent number. Like, no information. If you fear you may be subjected to some unknowns, what's the most you want? - information. (Like, what are they going to do to me? - or whatever along those lines.) Does "room 101" give any information? - no. I'd say it's a right choice.
