To me, this story shows how hard it is for people or animals to let go of something, or forced to change from one kind of personalityl to another, because in Buck's case, if they didn't, they would not be able to survive. I think this story shows that adaption is sometimes the only way to make things easier, and also, that things aren't as bad as they seen to be.
