Looking for a german poem

Hello!

I need to find a certain poem in german, and I have very little information to work with. One of the lines translated to english is roughly:

I present to you the life of the flower I did not pick for you.

I seem to remember that the author was somebody I'd heard of, a very famous one, but I can't for the life of me remember who.

This is very important to me, any help or hint is greatly appreciated!

More information would be necessary. The name of the author, the period, the name of the book where it appeared...

I Googled some of the words in German & got: "Ich habe heute ein paar Blumen für dich nicht gepflückt, um dir ihr Leben mitzubringen."

"I did not pick a few flowers for you today to bring you their lives."

By Christian Morgenstern (which means morning star): apparently, tho, it is not from a poem but is an aphorism.
