By searching I found some versions available from Amazon. I haven't read any to help make a choice. I wouldn't mind reading these and discussing them here if you are interested.

Read "The Wife of Bathīs Tale". One interesting point is that the tale is told from a feminine perspective of the 13-14 C. The final moral reminded me of a Brazilian saying; "Quem ama o feio, bonito lhe parece" (To the loverīs eyes the ugly will appear as beautiful).

That Brazilian saying fits the tale as I remember it. One doesn't need magic for it to work. Or maybe all of it is magic.
