‘No man is an island entire of itself; every man
is a piece of the continent, a part of the main.’
John Donne, 'For Whom The Bell Tolls'

Man is an island
Cast adrift
Crushed by waves of intolerance
Betrayal
Duplicity
Seagulls bite
Sirens beguile
Under a sun
Which is moon not a star.
Man hopes to be a continent
To have valleys of green
High rising mountains
Pastures
To be full and complete.
But man is an island
Shoreline fortressed by rocks amidst solitary sands
Wind hits with full force
Searing
Sun-soaked
Dry scorched
And there is no shelter.
Man is an island
Hoping to be a continent
Never becoming one.
