I think Lewis Carroll is making commentaries on the adult world. Children need to be children and be allowed to be silly and pretend.

strange, considering it was after 2 in morn when you wrote comment, actually makes a whole lot of sense! i agree that to understand wonderland is the same as understanding your dreams. great insight.

I read this from 1-2am to trance music, and I've found that in this state it makes a fair bit of sense. Still, as not everyone will perhaps attempt this, I can see where there could possibly have been a few logical contradictions. The trick to understanding Wonderland seems, to me, to be the same trick to understanding one's dreams--to just go with it, flow with it. Dreams are understood through ambiance, not analysis. (How wonderful! It is 2.08 and I have used "ambiance!")
However there are definite veiled truths in the story...perhaps not quite truths. On a first reading all I could come with were veiled normalities--the list of the Mock Turtle's subjects, for example. I'm sure that there are more in here for those who wish to find them.
Right, I'm off. I enjoyed this.

Cheers,
Marius
