Margarine!

This might sound like an odd question, but does anyone know of any references to margarine/butterine in literary texts pre-1950?

In this book from the German serie for teens Nesthäkchen the class has to write down by dictation the sentence : "Margarine ist der beste Butterersatz"(Margarine is the best substitute for Butter)
