I'm looking for modern plays written after 2000. I know practically none. I've looked up some that do not appeal to me at all - I would very much prefer to avoid too much bad language and a gratuitous focus on disturbing topics.

Does anyone know of any such plays? If you're not quite sure what I'm after, any suggestions are welcome.

Jerusalem by Jez Butterworth & Chimerica by Lucy Kirkwood

Jerusalem is very much a state of the nation play and is relevant to England today.

Chimerica takes a more global approach, but explores how China's growth may have an impact upon the global scene.

In addition, there's Lucy Kirkwood's new one - The Children which is on at the Royal Court theatre now, looking at the legacy of a Fukishima style nuclear disaster on the English coast.

In addition, there's Tom Stoppard's Rock'n'Roll which develops themes from the fall of the Iron Curtain, and A Humble Boy by Charlotte Jones which ruminates upon themes from Hamlet.

Post-2000 plays can be hard to get in print and absurdly overpriced. Generally for a play to get a print run it will have to be by a known playwright and performed either in New York or London. You can always peruse the awards nominations from recent years to see what was well received.

I'm not sure what you consider disturbing themes though. You could try Ronnie Burkett, he writes puppet theatre.
